Gültekin Gürdal serves as the Head of Library and Documentation Department at Izmir Institute of Technology (İYTE). Gürdal, who is constantly seeking innovation and technology in the field of librarianship, attracts attention with his work in this field. He is also the founding partner of the R&D Company Research Ecosystems and implements his projects with the thought "The world is doing it, why shouldn't we do it?" Gürdal, who completed his undergraduate education at Hacettepe University Information and Document Management (Library) Department, completed his master's degree in Business Management at Kocaeli University. He started his career by working at prestigious institutions such as Bilkent University, TUBITAK Marmara Research Center, Sabancı University, TOBB University of Economics and Technology, and has been working at IYTE Library since 2005. Gürdal has held important positions such as the President of the Anatolian University Libraries Consortium (ANKOS) and the Coordinator of the ANKOS - AEKA (Open Access and Institutional Archives) Group, and he currently serves actively in the ANKOS Advisory Board. Additionally, the World Confederation of Open Access Repositories (COAR), the European Research Information Systems Association (EuroCRIS), the International Association of Technical University Libraries (IATUL), the European Research Libraries Association (LIBER), the Turkish Librarians Association (TKD) and the University and Research Librarians Association ( They have active memberships in important organizations such as ÜNAK. Gürdal, who also carries out duties such as TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM National Open Science Committee Member, Higher Education Open Science and Open Access Working Group Member and Higher Education Research Vision and Open Data Sub-Working Group Coordinator, is also a member of the OpenAIRE Board of Directors.
